Traffic Test is a company in Veenendaal (the Netherlands), specialized in research on everything that deals with traffic and transport, like infrastructure, accidents and investigation of the use of safety belts. The principals of Traffic Test have a lot of information available on car accidents, but the accessibility of this information used to be very bad.
The company therefore asked me to write a spreadsheet application able to arrange the data of car accidents conveniently. The input of the program had to consist of a lot of information including date and time, licence number, driver, company, cause of the accident, etc. The program had to work in Quattro Pro for DOS version 4 and 5 (English and Dutch version) as well as in Quattro Pro for Windows version 1.0 (English and Dutch version). Because of budget limitations a maximum of 160 hours was available for the project.
I did most of the project at home (in Enschede), but on a regular base (about once a week) the advances had to be shown at the office in Veenendaal. When the program was finished my chief was very satisfied with the result. The final version of the worksheet was capable of analysing a maximum of one thousand car accidents. All results could be displayed in tables as well as in graphs.
Examples of graphs and tables created by the worksheet include:
